Importance and Development of Mathematics and Music Education in Gifted Students




Who is Dr. Burak KARABEY?

Dr. Burak Karabey, Ph.D, is Assistant Professor in the Department of Gifted Education at Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey. He received his master's degree in mathematics education in 2003, and his Ph.D about mathematically gifted pupils education in 2010 from Dokuz Eylul University. He was involved various projects funded by the European Union Seventh Framework Programme, Erasmus and CFCU as the researcher, educator, and coordinator. Dr. Karabey founded “Child Development Academy (CDA)” for gifted education and still has been actively participating in this project. Recently, He is working with interdisciplinary group working about Steam Education for Gifted Students. His research interests are in conceptual mathematics, critical thinking, creative problem solving and gifted education.


Who is Dr. Bahar ERİŞ?

Dr. Bahar Eriş is a writer and academician focused on talent development in children and gifted education. Between 1998 and 2004, she received her master's and PhD degrees in the Gifted Education Program at Columbia University Teachers College, New York. Between 2004 and 2014, she lectured at Boğaziçi University Faculty of Education on gifted education. Between 2005 and 2017, she lectured master courses as an assistant professor at Bahçeşehir University Gifted Education Center. She is the writer of books entitled “Every Child is Gifted”, “Mum, My Brain is Hungry”, “How Do Kids Achieve?”, How Do Kids Achieve 2?, and “Stars in the Shadow”. Since 2017, she has been organizing the “Mom Talks”, which brings parents and experts together in an educational content.


Who is Şahin EKŞİOĞLU?

For over 20 years, Şahin Ekşioğlu has written articles on science, technology and the future in newspapers, magazines and web sites, and has spoken on radio / TV programs and panels. He received his undergraduate degree from Istanbul University Conservatory and his master's degree in Informatics from Department of Journalism at Marmara University. Since its first issue, Şahin Ekşioğlu has been the editor-in-chief of Popular Science and How It Works magazines. He has been the guest of more than 30 universities with Popular Science writers in panels across the country for the last 5 years entitled “How science will change our lives in the future?”. Mr. Ekşioğlu is currently pursuing his PhD at the İstanbul Technical University in Center for Advanced Studies in Music, where he focuses on the effects of art and music on human brain.
